Vacationing in Galveston Texas? When your chocolate craving hits, get to Patty Cakes Bakery as fast as you can!

They sell an appealing assortment of chocolate desserts worth the detour.

This little gem caught my eye as I drove by. So in order to fulfill my awesome chocolate reviews duties I turned around.

Went in and purchased a slice of cheesecake, a cookie, a croissant and a cupcake.

Patty Cakes Bakery is located at 704, 14th Street in the Historic East End of Galveston, Texas.

Just 3 blocks east of Broadway (Avenue J), on the corner of 14th and Avenue G. It's a few blocks from the famous Bishop's Palace.

The staff was friendly and attentive. The choice of chocolate items was varied. FYI the staff told me the selection varies from day to day.

They do have some gluten free and vegan baked goods available.

Patty Cakes Chocolate Desserts

This attractive corner bakery is a great place to go when you need a bittersweet treat. They offer lots of chocolate goodies.

So it can be ever so difficult to choose. Decisions, decisions!

Who can decide when tempted by...

• cakes
• cake balls
• chocolate chip cookies
• cupcakes
• cheesecake
• brownies
• chocolate-filled croissants

Solution? Buy an assortment. That's what I did!

But I had to share with my mother and sister, reluctantly of course.

Fortunately, neither is a rabid chocolate fan like me so a bite or two and they're through.

Here's what we sampled...

• a slice of chocolate cheesecake
• and an a totally chocolate cupcake

Where they good you ask?

Taste Test Results

Three out of four were good. One was a little disappointing.

Here's my take for what it's worth.

Chocolate chip cookie-Delicious. It didn't last long enough to have it's picture taken! The crispy cookie was filled with mini chocolate chips. It was all a chocolate chip cookie should be.

Chocolate-filled croissant-Yummy! Buttery, flaky croissant filled with dark chocolate. Baked to a golden brown. Not sweet. Nice change of pace.

Chocolate cheesecake-Good. Creamy, mildly chocolate (to me), with a subtle cream cheese flavor.

Chocolate cupcake-Average. Pretty to look at but the cake was a little dry and the frosting was unremarkable.

One disappointment won't deter me. I'm planning a return trip to try a cake ball!

Go ahead and give the bakery a try the next time you are on the island. See what you think.

When in Galveston go where the BOI's (born on island) go to satisfy their chocolate craving. Patty Cakes Bakery. It has that classic corner bakery feel and friendly folks too. Plus plenty of chocolate dessert choices to enjoy. And lots of treats for those that don't do chocolate.
