Debbie asks Chocolate Questions...
What are the affects of putting dark chocolate on your skin, face? That's a great question Debbie.
The cocoa butter in the chocolate will help to moisturize your skin which may temporarily reduce the appearance of the wrinkles.
Unfortunately, chocolate won't magically erase them. But it may help fight the formation of new wrinkles.
In a 2006 study, consuming dark chocolate was shown to be good for skin. The antioxidants improved the overall health, the appearance and reduced UV damage.
A 2007 study found that the topical application of cocoa bean extracts can prevent UV-induced wrinkle formation in hairless mice.
Does applying chocolate to your skin give you the
same benefits as eating it? Maybe. Both studies showed that it helps to protect skin from UV damage. But, of course, more research is needed.
I gave myself a chocolate facial and it felt great. Smelled even better! And my skin felt smoother.
So unless you have a health problem that chocolate
may aggravate, there's no down side to applying it
to your skin. Well, except for the mess and the tragic waste of good chocolate!
Just be sure to use a good quality chocolate bar with lots of cocoa and cocoa butter.
Thanks again Debbie.
